Hope and her sister Isabell, like their parents, were slaves of Nathaniel Sylvester at Sylvester Manor in Shelter Island.

Hope was  bequeathed to Grizzell Sylvester in Nathaniel Sylvester's Last Will and Testament 1680.

Her sister Isabell was bequeathed to Grizzel's daughter Elizabeth Sylvester.  Because Elizabeth eventually married and moved to Southold, this probably meant that Isabell was separated from her family unless Elizabeth was visiting Shelter Island.
