Noble, Honorable, highly Esteemed, Wise and most Prudent Lords:

My Lords, since my last letter of 27 May by way of an Indian, I have learned nothing further from Maryland about the English.

The Indians here are very fearful of the coming of the English. For some days they met near Passajongh and gathered a large amount of sewant to present to the chiefs of the Minquaes and other Indians so that they might mediate these murders on their behalf. Ten or twelve days ago the Minquaes presented gifts of peltry to the governor of Maryland concerning this aforesaid matter, but he refused to accept [ the peltries ]. On the contrary, they requested that they go and destroy the River Indians. They refused to do this; because as the Minqua chief, who went with you to the Esopus last year, said to Captain Krieger and elsewhere on the 28th of this month: the Minquaes and Sinnecus are at war with one another.

My Lords, Jacop Swens reported to me that Hendrick Huygen had informed him that Johan Rysingh arrived in Sweden last year, that is to say, in September. Upon his urgent request they agreed to provide him with a ship and soldiers in order to retake the South River.

Eight days ago Mr. d'Honojosse announced his commission to the community. He assembled them by ringing the bell. He also assured them that a ship would soon arrive here from the father-land with a group of farmers. However, he told me upon receipt of the letter that his superiors had not mentioned sending any ship or people, but complained that he had received no replies to many matters which he had awaited, saying that the letter from September was already old.

Captain Kregier informed me that he had learned from d?Hinojosse that van Vleeck had warned him to be on his guard because you had ordered me to send him up [ to your place ].

My Lords, herewith go Sergeant Jacop van der Veer and Jan H[ erasmus ] both who have requested their discharge and return to the fatherland.

Gregorius van Dyck requests to know the reason why [ he has been dismissed ]. I referred him to the recommendation on his petition.

I hereby close, commending you to God's protection, with wishes for a prosperous administration and long life. After cordial greetings, I remain.
