Document: Summons to the magistrates of Gravesend and Anthony Jansen and his servant to appear before the council

Present: the lord director general Petrus Stuyvesant, the lords councilors Nicasius de Sille, La Montagne.

[several lines lost] the court messenger, Claes van Elslant, to cite and summon the magistrates of the village of Gravesande as plaintiffs and claimants, and Anthony Jansz van Salee and his servant Antony Loreth as defendants, to appear on this coming Tuesday, being the 22nd of this month of August, at ten o’clock, before the director general and councilors in order to instruct and defend such charges and conclusions as the parties shall want to take; and, that done at the expense and costs of the losing parties doing a report of your proceedings. Done in Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland, the 18th of August 1656 (was signed) P. Stuyvesant.
