Andries Rees, a cadet in the West India Company's service in 1657 {Cal. Hist. MSS., Dutch, 187), seems to have been keeping a tavern here in 1660, though his patent issued some time later. — Patents, II: 40 (Albany). He served as watchman to the town, and seems to have been a peaceably disposed citizen, though Schout Tonneman harrassed him frequently, alleging minor offenses against the excise laws, etc. He was still taxed here in 1677. — M. C. C, I: 57; see also Rec. N. Am., Ill: 104, 217, et seq.
