The earliest homestead on the (arm may have been on the site of Henry Brevoort's house, on the west side of the Bowery Road, in the bed of nth Street. The Ratzer Map shows it. It was there when the Randel Map was drawn.
There is a tradition that Mr. Brevoort defied the city to destroy his home and garden by cutting nth Street through his property. And that, because of the general esteem in which he was held, it was not done.
Certainly nth Street never has been cut through, and as Grace Church rectory and the neighbourhood house now stand there, it is extremely unlikely that it ever will be.
