Document: LETTER from Hendrick Martens, commander at Aruba, to Petrus Stuyvesant

Honorable, Valiant, very Discreet Lord, My Lord Petrus Stuyvesant, General in Nieuw Nederlandt and over the Curacao islands and the dependencies thereof, namely, Bonairo and Aruba.

Greetings. I hereby inform your honor that by order of the honorable Mathyas Beck there is coming aboard the galiot twenty-four horses, among which there are two mares for Mr. van Ruyven on his account according to the receipts herein contained.[1]

Also coming by order of the honorable Mathyas Beck, six sheep together with six castrated goats.

Shipped aboard Den Eyckenboom, by order of Director Mathyas Beck, is one horse for my honorable lord Generals son. Herewith I commend your honor together with his loved ones and entire family to the merciful protection of the Almighty.

Done at Aruba, 18 May 1660.
