Place: Stadt Huys, New York City

The Stadt Huis in New Amsterdam was originally built in 1642 by the Dutch West India Company as a tavern, but after the town received its municipal charter in 1653, the building was converted to serve as the official Town Hall. It became the center of government and political life in New Amsterdam until 1679, when it was considered structurally unsafe. It was demolished in 1699.
