Demographics: Soldier - Dutch West India Company

Occupation Types
Description

There would be no difference between a soldier and a West India Company soldier. This was the lowest military rank in the West India Company. Men were recruited and had no say as to where, that is, what colony, they were being assigned to. So those who came to New Netherland came by happenstance.   David Voorhees

"....up to the 1650s, WIC soldiers had no say as to where they ended up, but afterwards they had, as the Company deliberately recruited military personnel with the aim of turning them into colonists when their time was up."   Jaap Jacobs
