Description
Moonlight was very helpful if not essential to navigation. The degree of illumination of the moon in each phase often helped ship to spot land, or dangerous rocky coasts.
In 1657 the Wreck of the Prince Maurice was in part, because they were navigating in the dark, after moonset.
