Appeared before Messrs. Jan Willem and Joos de la Gransie, councillors of this colony of New Amstel, the honorable Hans Block, about 44 years old, and Gerret Hendricksz Boog, about 24, who, at the request of Mr. Beeckman, vice-director in the South River, have attested, testified and declared that they, the deponents, were at Fop Jansz' house on 20 July where the deceased, Harmen Hendricksz, lay; and he, van Sweringhe, was also there to take a statement. Van Sweringhe said that it troubled him that he had not shot the right man but wished that it was the other one, and, "I'm sorry that it was the innocent one." All of the aforesaid we declare to be true and truthful and are ready to confirm the same by oath at any time. Thus done in the colony of New Amstel, 2 August 1662.

Appeared before Messrs. Jan Willems and Pieter Pietersz de Harder, councillors of this colony of New Amstel, the honorable Fop Jansz Outhout, about 30 years old; Flip Jansz, about 25 years old; and Gerret Hendricksz de Boog, about 24 years old, who, at the request of Willem Beekman, vice-director on the South River, have attested, testified and declared as they, the deponents, hereby testify, that they were at Fop Jansz' house on the morning of 21 July, and that they had been discussing with many others the shooting of the soldier; among the others was Gerret de Groot, messenger of this colony, who was asked what had actually happened. He, de Groot, said, "I didn't see the soldiers use any violence against the schout's house nor did I see any swords or firearms among them; however, I did hear something rattle but didn't know what it was nor did I see anything." All of the aforesaid they, the deponents, declare to be true and truthful, and are ready to confirm it by oath at any time. Thus done in the colony of New Amstel, 2 August 1662.
