Translation

Noble, Honorable, highly Esteemed, Wise, Prudent and Discreet Lords:

My Lords, on the first of this month, upon hearing of an opportunity, I sent a letter to you with Mr. Kregier; however, because of some trouble he did not depart. Then on the third, a ship arrived here called de Purmerlander Kerck, destined for Manhattan; but with some goods to unload here on behalf of the city of Amsterdam, and some settlers and the schout, Gerrit van Sweringen.

I still have not been able to obtain a ship?s manifest and passengers' list from either the skipper or the supercargo; even the letters to you, although I offered the skipper and other friends to send a soldier with the Indian in order to hasten their delivery. Nevertheless, it was considered unadvisable.

Herewith I commend you to God's protection, remaining, after wishes for a long life and prosperous administration.
