Description

The Lenape also called the Leni Lenape and Delaware Indians  at the time of the Dutch Colonial period,  were a Native American people with a vast territory that included what is now northeastern Delaware, New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania along the Delaware River watershed, New York City, western Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley.   

The Lenape have a matrilineal clan system and historically were matrilocal.
