Translation Superscripts
[1]: The city of Amsterdam had recently received the City Hall for its own use from the council. However, Schut’s salt, which was stored in City Hall, made repair and use of the building difficult. Hence, Schut was ordered to remove the salt on March 1,1655. By April 12, Schut was again ordered to remove the salt on penalty of having the city remove it at his expense. Schut must have then appealed the burgomasters’ decision to the council. By August 23, Schut still had not removed the salt, despite two more warnings. See RNA, 1:291-92,304,340,348.
