Artist: Quirijn Gerritsz. van Brekelenkam (Dutch, Zwammerdam (?), after 1622–ca. 1669 Leiden)

A young mother is breastfeeding her baby, a wicker cradle standing beside her. Such functional wicker furniture, lightweight and easy to maneuver, would have been used for babies in the households of the Netherlands and New Netherland alike.
