Bound manuscript, spine broken away. Translation corresponds to Original Dutch Records of New Amsterdam, volume 1, books 1 and 2, incorporating the Ordinances of New Amsterdam and the first book of Minutes of the Court of Burgomasters and Schepens. The title page reads: Translation of Dutch Records 1647-1654 although in actuality the Dutch ordinances end at 1661.
This first book of English translations is believed to be an 1830's translation by a clerk and president of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, Cornelius Westbrook. It has been described as a poor translation, and this manuscript shows it was heavily edited, probably by Berthold Fernow in the late 1890s.
