Nicolaes Jansen, baker, received a ground-brief for this plot from Director Stuyvesant and council, in 1656 {Liber HH, 2, 52, Albany), and here conducted a bake-shop, obtaining the small burgherright in 1657. — Rec. N. Am., VH: 152. He seems to have been a baker at New Amsterdam as early as 1644, when he furnished the ship "Wapen van Rensselaers Wijck" with bread. — Van Rensselaer Bowier MSS., 718, 721.
