Resolution drawn up by our general war and ships council regarding what happened to us at Fort St. Martin.

It was decided that principally Jacob Mattijsen van Riethoven shall go into ambush with sixty muskets close under the fort in order to see whether any advance can be made for the profit of our lords-directors, and then all of us together in order to make ourselves master of the fort as quickly as possible. Furthermore, Jacob Mattysen van Riethoven, as ensign of Curacao, shall have complete command of all officers and soldiers who accompany him on the aforesaid exploit, so that no one shall do anything without his orders or undertake anything without his knowledge, unless he is injured; assigned to him are the capitain des armes Sigmund Sellener and Andries Holtsappel, whom we trust will do their best in the absence of the aforesaid ensign. We hope that this will all come out for the best. Thus done and concluded in our encampment before St. Martyn, this 30th of March 1644. Was signed:

Jacob Lopper ,
Willem Cornelissen Oudemarckt ,
Jan Claessen Smal ,
Martten Doene ,
Roger Johnson ,
Jacop Mattijsen van Rijthoven .
