Document: Letter from Jacob Alrichs to the director and council

My Lords, I wrote at length two days ago on the 20th of this month by the ensign, Pieter Smit, who left here with the Company's yacht, d'Eendracht, to which I now refer. Since then I have also fully loaded Captain Jan Jacobs's ship, by which this is going, along with the enclosed manifests which show what goods he has to deliver there: City's property as well as private. These goods can be received and stored in the warehouse along with those sent previously. I expect these ships together with some others to return here as soon as possible. In closing I remain, after dutiful respects and greetings, and commending you to the Lord,

[ P.S.: ] The skipper of the Prins Maurits urges me constantly to go to your place and hire or buy a ship. This is to be prevented and by no means allowed in order not to weaken the City thereby.
