This detail from the famous 'Hartger's View" shows the importance of mishoon traffic in the trade on Mahnattan Island.     Huge numbers of these vessels moved up and down the coast and into the interior via rivers carrying furs, firewood, and other trade goods that supported both the Indigenous people and the European settlements.
