Document: Certificate that a balance is due to Immetje Cornelis, matron of the orphan children sent out from Amsterdam

At the session, present: the lords high councilors, Nicasius de Sille, J. Lamontagne and the honorable fiscal Cornelis van Tienhoven. Having read the petition and attached account, dated 10 March 1655, which Immetje Cornelis, who was sent here to New Netherland as supervisor of the children in 1654 by the almosseniers [1] of the city of Amsterdam, exhibited to the lords supervisors of the aforesaid children, by which she shows that she had incurred some debts on behalf of the children; the balance shows f168:8 outstanding, for which she requests payment or such other arrangement as the gentlemen shall find appropriate. And whereas the aforesaid supervisor offered to satisfy here the outstanding debts, provided they furnish her the certificate thereof, which we could not refuse her; especially since we found in the account book that the aforesaid sum was due her when the debts had been satisfied.
