Having read at the session the petition of Jacob Kip, clerk of the bench of justice of the city, requesting that he be granted the position of auctioneer, or otherwise split the aforesaid office between him and Cornelis van Ruyven, secretary of the high council.

After deliberation it was resolved that the petitioner be referred to his instructions granted to him as clerk of the bench of justice of this city, in which no mention is made of the position of auctioneer that for a long time has belonged to the secretary of the high council, and it has been decided that the same office shall continue as such until further orders from the honorable director general and councilors. However, whereas the director general and councilors have been informed by the lords orphanmasters that the petitioner must be used by them for such work now and then producing inventories; [ therefore ] the petitioner, with regard to this activity, is permitted to sell, as auctioneer for the orphanmasters, the goods that the orphanmasters order him to inventory in this capacity, and to enjoy the benefits thereof. Done at Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland, ady ut supra, 29 November 1655.
