Ancestor Notes

Lucas Dircksen. Ancestor #1,660,055. Tavern, Block A, Lot 9. June, 1656. Lucas Dircksen, a sergeant in the Dutch West India Company, kept a tavern on de Heere Straet near the churchyard, and there ran afoul of the city authorities so often that he was obliged to pick up stakes and move with his wife to the South River of New Netherland—never to return. His wife, however, did return after his death, and married an even less reputable fellow, a German Lutheran minister with whom she set to quarreling and for whom she eventually resorted to a court order to vacate her house.
